In September 2012, an armed and disguised male entered a bank and ordered customers against the wall. After obtaining money from the tellers, the robber fled on foot.
Customer Charles Elliott obeyed the robber’s orders, but kept a constant watch of his actions and the firearm. Believing the gun was fake, Mr. Elliott followed the robber from a safe distance until he lost sight of him. Because of his quick thinking and brave actions, Mr. Elliot was able to see the robber’s face and lead police to the location of the disguise that had been discarded.
Through their ongoing investigation, detectives made connections to a similar series of robberies that occurred over a decade ago. Not only was Mr. Elliott able to identify the suspect as being the same man, but the disguise further linked the suspect through DNA.
Mr. Elliott followed a dangerous person from a safe distance and acquired vital information which he passed along to police. By doing this a serial robber was identified and arrested. Without Mr. Elliott’s assistance, other citizens would have undoubtably been victimized.
