On October 23, 2011, Janet Esteves and her husband noticed two new trucks with no license plates parked in a cultural centre parking lot. Ms. Esteves recorded the vehicle identification numbers and reported them to police. She was told that the vehicles were not registered or reported stolen, but there was not much more police could do at the time. At home, Janet continued to think about the trucks and had a feeling that something wasn’t right, so she began calling local dealerships to see if they were missing any vehicles. Finally Ms. Esteves connected with the manager of a northside dealership who told her that the trucks belonged to them and they weren’t aware they were missing from the lot. Police were contacted and the trucks were reported stolen. Due to Ms. Esteves’s persistence in determining who these trucks belonged to, police were able to arrest three people and recover two $50,000 vehicles.
