In April of 2013, a landlord asked a man to leave a north side residence. When the man refused to leave, the landlord called police. The suspect violently assaulted the landlord who was in his mid-70s, resulting in a severe head injury. The suspect fled the scene and investigating officers issued warrants for his arrest. He soon became one of North Division’s “most wanted.”
Jean-Michel Despres is employed as a security officer at a downtown government building. A month after the vicious assault took place, Mr. Despres observed the suspect enter the government building to pick up a cheque. Without hesitation, Mr. Despres called police and kept a close watch on the man until responding officers arrived for the arrest.
According to investigators, the suspect was apprehended exclusively as a result of Mr. Depres’ quick thinking and excellent observation skills. He deserves recognition for his actions which resulted in the arrest of a dangerous offender.”
