In July 2016, an officer was driving on Groat Road when he looked up and spotted a male standing over the railing on a bridge above the road. The officer stopped his vehicle but was unable to speak with the male due to the distance and traffic noise. As the officer stopped traffic and called for backup, Mr. Ken Carpenter started walking over the bridge and noticed the male standing over the railing preparing to jump onto the busy road below. Mr. Carpenter slowly approached the man, gaining his trust. Within a minute, they were shaking hands. After encouraging the man to stand up and face the guard rail, Mr. Carpenter wrapped his arms around him and helped him back over the rail to safety with the assistance of responding officers. Mr. Carpenter put himself at risk to save the life of another individual.
