In March of 2013, two complete strangers worked together to pull a man from the cold rushing water of the North Saskatchewan River.
That day, Ms. Kathleen Oltsher saw a man jump off the LRT bridge and into the river. She immediately headed along the river bank to try and grab onto him as the force of the water moved him quickly down stream. Along the way, Ms. Oltsher was joined by Mr. Nishant Happy. About two hundred meters down the river, the man was finally able to get close enough to the river’s edge. Despite the extreme cold temperature of the water and the fast moving current, the pair worked together to pull him to safety. They risked their own lives to save the life of a man who surely wouldn’t have lasted much longer in the frigid river.
