In January 2014, Mr. Rolland Mondoux was waiting for his wife in a parking lot when he saw an armed male approach a woman and her young daughter, demanding her purse and keys. The woman told her daughter to run, and the man assaulted the woman and attempted to take her purse. Mr. Mondoux approached the suspect who then turned his focus on him instead. While pointing the gun at Mr. Mondoux and several other distant pedestrians, the suspect got in the Mr. Mondoux car and sped away.
Over the next several days, Mr. Mondoux assisted police in any way he could. His co-operation and actions directly impacted the outcome of the investigation, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect and laying of seven criminal charges.
The nominating officer stated “The presence of the gun makes it exceptionally rare that the public would be involved. Mr. Mondoux is deserving of this honour.”
