For the Edmonton Police Service, and citizens of Edmonton alike, June 8, 2015, is a day we will never forget – that was the day we lost Constable Dan Woodall. Were it not for the bravery of Mr. Ryan Colton, the EPS could have been mourning the loss of another officer as well. Mr. Colton lived in the house next door to where countless shots were fired at officers. He observed an injured Sgt. Jason Harley attempting to crawl away from the house while shots were still being fired from within. Instead of retreating, Mr. Colton left the safety of his own house and dragged Sgt. Harley out of danger several homes away. He immediately began to apply first aid and continual reassurance until the sergeant was in the care of emergency medical services. Mr. Colton is to be commended for going above and beyond normal civic duties by putting his own life in jeopardy to rescue an officer from a situation that had already claimed the life of another.
