On May 19, 2008, Mr. Wayne Brown saw a fight happening on his front lawn. One male was on the ground with another male on top of him, while a third male stood nearby. Mr. Brown told his wife to call 911 while he went out to assist. It was when Mr. Brown pulled one man off the other that he noticed the suspect had a knife. Because of the close proximity, Mr. Brown was forced to tackle the man when he advanced toward him. During the struggle, Mr. Brown managed to get the knife free of the suspect’s hands. The suspect and the other male who was standing nearby fled the scene. Mr. Brown noticed that the remaining male was bleeding profusely from deep wounds to his arms and legs. Using his own clothing and towels, Mr. Brown applied first aid while they waited for police to arrive. Wayne Brown’s selfless act of bravery and his spontaneous decision to help another human being under extremely dangerous circumstances is incredible. Seasoned investigators have said that they’ve witnessed very few acts of bravery that rival what Mr. Brown did that day. A trial judge even stated on record that without his intervention that day, there may well have been a homicide.
