Our Vision: The Edmonton Police Commission’s vision echoes that of the Edmonton Police Service: To make Edmonton the safest major city in Canada and for the Edmonton Police Service to be recognized as a leader in policing.
Our Mission: Given the unique roles, the Commission’s mission is different but complementary to that of the EPS: To increase public safety through independent governance and civilian oversight of the Edmonton Police Service.
At the core of the Edmonton Police Commission is a set of beliefs and guiding principles meant to increase the safety of our community and ensure professional and ethical policing in Edmonton. These principles are shared with the Edmonton Police Service:
Transparency and accessibility to the citizens of Edmonton.
Ensuring policing services based on sound ethical principles including equality and freedom from bias, discrimination and harassment.
Informed decision-making with a focus on the future.
Adherence to the principles of natural justice and fairness.
Community-based policing and partnerships with communities that support crime prevention and early intervention.
Ensuring an effective, efficient and professional police service for Edmonton.
Enhancing officer and citizen safety.
