2009 EPS Citizen Survey
Citizen satisfaction and public confidence levels are important measures of our success.
For many years, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has polled Edmontonians to determine their views and opinions on service levels, perceptions of crime and citizen-identified neighbourhood problems.
The recently released 2009 Citizen Survey reveals that a significant majority of Edmontonians surveyed (89 per cent) agreed that they have a lot of confidence in the EPS.
Other Survey Highlights include:
• 82 per cent of respondents were satisfied overall with the service provided by the EPS.
• Of those respondents who reported having formal contact with the EPS, their satisfaction ratings ranged from 83 – 89 per cent.
• 70 per cent of people surveyed felt crime in their neighbourhood had remained the same over the past year.
• Two-thirds of respondents (66 per cent) reported feeling safe when walking alone in their neighbourhood after dark.
• More officers/police presence, improved communication/contact with public, and focus of enforcement topped the list of recommendations for improved service.
• Traffic, gangs/organized crime, and drugs were the three top issues that respondents felt should be addressed by the EPS.
A total of 1,141 telephone interviews, with randomly selected households, were completed between November 3 – 16, 2009. The targeted sample size of 1,100 yields city-level results accurate to within +/- 3%, 19 times out of 20.
The Edmonton Police Commission and the Edmonton Police Service wish to thank all Edmontonians who graciously took the time to participate in the telephone survey.
