Policing priorities endorsed by Commission

Chief Mike Boyd presented the 2010 Annual Policing Plan – Public Highlights to the Edmonton Police Commission on Thursday, February 18, 2010. The policing plan identifies 23 priority initiatives the Edmonton Police Service will undertake in 2010.

“The Commission asked the Chief of Police to develop a plan that would respond to community needs and address key areas of concern for Edmontonians,” said Commission Chair Brian Gibson. “We endorse the policing plan that has been presented and the objectives set by Chief Boyd for 2010.”

New targets have been established by Chief Boyd to reduce crime in Edmonton by four per cent, increase clearance rates by five per cent, and reduce public complaints against police officers by five per cent, over the 2009 baseline.

"The policing plan demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens by targeting crime and social disorder, and improving the quality of police investigations to solve more crimes," said Chair Gibson. "The Commission is equally pleased with the emphasis placed on professionalism of police officers."
