On Thursday, January 19, at the first Edmonton Police Commission meeting of the year, members of the Commission elected the Chair and Vice-Chair for 2017, as per EPC policy.
Ms. Cathy Palmer served as Chair in 2016 and is re-appointed as Chair for 2017. Ms. Palmer joined the Commission in 2011. During her tenure, she represented Edmonton as Chair of the Canadian Association of Police Governance. She also served as Vice Chair of the Commission in 2014. Despite having a six-year tenure for Commissioners, City Council reinstated Ms. Palmer for an additional year, making 2017 her seventh year.
Mr. Tim O’Brien is the new Vice-Chair of the Edmonton Police Commission. Mr. O’Brien joined the Edmonton Police Commission in 2016, during which he served on the Commission’s Finance and Audit Committee where his financial and business knowledge shone through.
