Join us at our Thursday, March 16 public Edmonton Police Commission meeting as members of the Edmonton Police Service Equity, Diversity, and Human Rights Unit share initiatives designed to build relationships between police and diverse communities across Edmonton. The EPS will also talk about their Diversity Positive Recruiting Advisory Committee, consisting of seven diverse communities with a shared objective to increase the number of police recruit applications.
The EPS 2016 Control Tactics Report is also on the agenda for discussion. This report provides statistical information on use of force occurrences from January 1 to December 31, 2016. Of the 258,522 police files generated in 2016, use of force was required in 2,291 cases, equating to less than 1% of all police files. The overall number of control tactics occurrences dropped by 5% compared to 2015.
